Late Saturday, the City of Fullerton sent out a notification regarding a special meeting on July 14, 2026, at 5:30 pm focused on the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27. This meeting, initially announced as part of a series of four city-sponsored discussions on the budget, now comes with a detailed agenda, which typically would have been shared by Thursday before the meeting.
The primary agenda item is the Budget Study Session, specifically addressing the Proposed Operating Budget. Accompanying documents include an Agenda Report and a detailed chart outlining the proposed options for City Council consideration. The city’s current goal is to address a significant $3.8 million shortfall, following the resolution of an earlier $10 million gap. Three proposed options for balancing the budget are being considered. The first option aims to balance the budget for a single year by utilizing reserves and unfunding nine vacant positions. The second option also covers a one-year period but does not rely on reserves and proposes to unfund 23 vacant positions. The third option spans three years and suggests additional reductions beyond the first two options, leading to a total of 31 vacant positions being unfunded.
