Indivisible CA45 hosted its fifth annual picnic at Hillcrest Park on Saturday, August 22.  There were 45 people in attendance to build community, take a break from the work of political advocacy, and have some fun!  Before the hard work on the November midterms really begins, members of Indivisible CA45 took some time to have a relaxing afternoon together.  Activities included a taco bar, arts and crafts activities, a quiz game, raffle and piñata.

Indivisible CA45 has been active in the community, with the weekly Monday evening rallies at the intersection of State College and Imperial Hwy in a peaceful celebration of free speech.  The group has hosted these rallies for 77 straight weeks (with time off when the temperature is above 90 degrees or when there has been heavy rain).  The rallies average 70-80 attendees.

The purpose of Indivisible is to support our Congressional districts.  Indivisible CA45 is so named because we correspond to the 45th Congressional district, and our representative is Derek Tran, keeping track of his voting record and making our concerns known regarding issues that are important to our group’s members.

As the midterm elections draw closer, members of Indivisible CA45 will be involved in supporting voters with canvassing, phone banking, voter registration, and more.  Our next meeting will be on Saturday, September 26th from 11 to 12:30 at the Fullerton Community Center, where we will hear about candidates and ballot propositions, as well as make plans for involvement in getting out the vote for the midterm election.

In addition, over the summer, members of Indivisible CA45 have been busy with community engagement.  On June 14, a Rise Up, Sing Out pizza and watch party was organized by the group in Fullerton as part of a larger, nationwide event. To celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country, members of the group handed out copies of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 at community events in Brea and Fullerton.  On July 17, they hosted a Good Trouble Lives On rally to commemorate the late Representative John Lewis and his work for voting rights.  And on July 25, they hosted a candlelight and prayer vigil for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, two men killed by ICE agents earlier that month.
