For years, the World War II Memorial at Hillcrest Park has slowly weathered over time. Now, thanks to a careful restoration, it’s ready to once again stand as a fitting tribute to the more than 50 servicemen whose names it bears.

Erected in 1946, just a year after the war’s end, the memorial holds names carefully recorded by the Izaak Walton League, a lasting record of local residents who answered the call to serve.

Eighty-one years after the war’s end, please join us as we celebrate the memorial’s restoration and honor the men it commemorates. All are welcome. Bring your family, your neighbors, and your gratitude.

Lest we forget.

This restoration would have never happened without resident Jensen Hallstrom. During a Fullerton City Council meeting in March 2026, Hallstrom shared details of his volunteer efforts to restore the historic Sequoia World War II memorial in Hillcrest Park, which has become increasingly neglected over the years. Distressed by the fading inscriptions honoring significant individuals, he reported that he began to repaint the names.

Hallstrom is dedicated to preserving the memorial. He has actively campaigned for better maintenance of this iconic memorial while also addressing urgent safety concerns within the park.

In addition to concerns about the monument, Hallstrom also raised alarms about safety issues in the park, specifically the absence of guardrails along the east-side road near the Izaak Walton League Cabin. The city promptly repaired the guardrails.
