Anaheim Halloween Parade caps day of fall festivities

Floats, marching bands and costumed characters made their way through downtown Anaheim on Saturday night as the Anaheim Halloween Parade capped a day of fall festivities.

The October 24 parade followed Broadway and Center Street Promenade, continuing a community tradition that celebrates Halloween, Día de los Muertos and the harvest season. Organized by local volunteers and community groups, the free event  began at 7 pm.

Earlier in the day, the Anaheim Fall Festival at Center Greens, next to City Hall, featured costume contests, live entertainment, children’s activities and local vendors. A classic car show took place nearby along Center Street Promenade.

The celebration traces its origins to 1923, when local merchants organized a festival to steer children away from Halloween pranks and property damage. A nighttime parade was added the following year. Volunteers and local businesses have sustained the tradition for more than a century.
