Remembering Longtime Fullerton Resident Mary “Anita” Torres

Mary “Anita” Torres, a beloved resident of Fullerton, California, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on November 2, 2026.

Born on February 26, 1937, in Denver, Colorado, she was the daughter of Tony Felix Lopez and Margaret Madrid, both originally from Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Anita and her husband, Adrian, relocated to the Los Angeles area in 1962, bringing their three sons with them. They eventually settled in the North Orange County city of Fullerton, where they found a warm community and a perfect environment to raise their family.

Anita was known for her passion for crocheting, gardening, and volunteering at the local library. She dedicated many years to the Fullerton School District, serving as a clerk at various elementary and junior high schools before concluding her long career as an assistant at the district office.

She is remembered as a devoted Catholic, leaving behind a legacy of lifelong friendships built within local parishes.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, and sons Orlando and Douglas. She is survived by her middle son, Brian; four grandchildren —Orlando Jr., Courtney, Heather, and Brennan—and her loyal dog, Darby.

A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, November 10, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fullerton, where family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and memory.

  1. She was always a valued neighbor and one who would take time out just to talk. She and Adrian were close family friends and confidants to both my mother and father. They also got watch all the children on the street grow from little kids into full blown adults , most now with families of their own. One thing I’ll never forget is while collecting for the Fullerton News Tribune, at the end of each month, they regularly had a Big Mac waiting for me, which back then was huge. They will both be missed.
