39th Annual Fullerton Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

The event is modeled after the National Prayer Breakfast held in Washington, D.C. A committee of volunteers organizes the Fullerton Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast and does not operate with government funds. ($45)

Guest speaker is William J. Federer, president of AmeriSearch, Inc., a publishing company “dedicated to researching America’s noble heritage,” where he has authored and published his 22 books, including:

  • “Why America Should be Under God,”
  • “Back Fired – A nation founded on religious tolerance no longer tolerates its founder’s religion,”
  • “What Every American Needs to know about the Qur’an; A history of Islam & the United States,” and
  • “Socialism: how the deep state capitalizes on crisis to consolidate control,” among others.

He is a Senior Fellow at the D. James Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship, a ministry of Evangelism Explosion International that seeks to “influence public policy” and “cast vision for the next generation of Christian leaders in the halls of government.”

Federer was a three-time unsuccessful candidate for Congress in Missouri in 1998, 2000, and 2004. He is a member of CNP (Council for National Policy), a right-wing group instrumental in voter suppression and in the Trump Muslim travel ban. SPLC Hatewatch describes Federer as “a far-right historian who treads in Islamophobic and anti-LGBTQ conspiracy theories.”

His speaking career has included thousands of engagements, from prayer breakfasts (including the National Day of Prayer) and government events to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, PTA meetings, and colleges and universities. Federer also spoke on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol for a Tea Party Rally.

Federer’s AMERICAN MINUTE radio feature is broadcast daily across America and on the Internet. His “Faith in History” television airs on the TCT Network on stations across America and via DirectTV. He has appeared on multiple TV programs such as CSPAN, FOX, Hannity & Colmes, The O’Reilly Factor, MSNBC, The 700 Club, and the major networks.

He graduated with a business degree from St Louis University and has worked in oil & gas and religious organizations.

Previously, he served the community as a Planning Commissioner from 2016-2018, where he was the Vice Chair in 2017 and Chair in 2018. Additionally, from 2012 to 2013, he served as a Commissioner on the Orange County Housing and Community Development Commission and was the appointee of Supervisor Shawn Nelson.

Dunlap is a third-generation Fullerton resident, born and raised. He and his wife Bianca are the proud parents of two little girls. As a father and big brother, Dunlap has been active in several Fullerton community groups and athletics over the years. 1. I don’t think Dunlap had anything to do with choice of speaker – though I could be wrong. I think the event is organized by Hope University.

    • Hmm, okay… slightly more understandable, albeit if I was the center of an event with someone like Federer as a speaker I’d pull out of it (and would encourage him if he’s reading this to do so as well). Thanks for clarifying!

    • Hope is the host location. The event is run entirely by the FMPB committee. That committee selects the speakers. Not HIU.

  2. Ashamed that Dunlap would invite someone like Federer at an event bearing his title… don’t need bigoted theocracy advocates hosting events which, while independent, are centered around our elected officials. The guy openly wants to violate the Establishment Clause even!

    • You need to understand our Constitution and the Establishment Clause better. A prayer meeting is not The State establishing a religion. It’s funny to see anti-religionists get all spun up. Maybe you should join all of the radical leftists who are attacking Jews right now on liberal college campuses. It would probably be a better fit for your politics.

      • I’m not saying the meeting is violating the Establishment Clause, that’s a strawman argument. My point was that Federer’s end goal is to violate the Establishment Clause by instituting Christianity as the state religion, which is a violation of the Establishment Clause without a doubt. If you’re going to criticize and insult me, at least criticize the actual argument I made….

          • Oh, that’s right, you’re religious about the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) — the same people who are verbally and physically assaulting Jews on liberal college campuses. How is your antisemitic organizing effort coming along at CSUF? Marxism doesn’t play well off-campus with the real people of Fullerton!

            • Insinuating I’m irreligious is something I wouldn’t have even expected out of an Observer comments section… and to be clear, I condemn all forms of antisemitism, and so does my org. We and I do not support physically assaulting anyone, regardless of their background; discriminating against someone because of their background; or in general harassing people because of their background.

              • You speak for everyone and know the heart of every Young Democratic Socialist of America member. Uh huh, right. No reasonable, mature, clear-thinking and independent-minded person would buy what you’re selling. You boasted about your “General Secretary” position in your Open Letter, now you must own the unintended consequences of your misguided rhetoric and pridefulness!

                • I don’t know the hearts of every member of every YDSA and I don’t speak for every YDSA. If I’m communicating an official Titan YDSA position, I only do so when sure that the membership at large is in concurrence.

Also, General Secretary is not something I “boast” about, it’s a clarification of my affiliation- and it is not the most powerful position in Titan YDSA, with the President and VP being above me. However when it comes to media relations, that is my responsibility.

                    • And upon you as well (I tried writing it in Arabic but the comment system won’t allow me, so waalaykum assalam)

        • I agree with this. By attending, Dunlap is endorsing Federer’s message. I had always interpreted the Prayer Breakfast to be an inclusive event, but Federer’s views are antithetical to goal of inclusivity. Were I in Dunlap’s position, I would withdraw from the event as a stand against bigotry.
