Drowning at Laguna Lake on May 4, 2024

The Fullerton Police Department and the Fullerton Fire Department responded to Laguna Lake regarding a possible drowning on May 4, 2024, at 6:57 pm. Upon arrival, Police and Fire personnel were notified that an adult male entered the lake, attempted to swim across, and was not seen exiting. 

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Underwater Search and Recovery Team (Dive Team) was requested to assist in locating the male in the lake. The Orange County Sherriff’s Department Underwater Search and Recovery Team located and recovered the male, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. 

No foul play is suspected. The deceased male’s identity will be released later by the Orange County Coroner’s Office. 

Laguna Lake and the surrounding areas are great places for outdoor activities such as bike riding, hiking, and fishing; however, swimming is prohibited for everyone’s safety.

  2. Shallow and muddy without lifeguards. I understand the maximum depth is about 10 feet. For swimming I think you would want cleaner water. We aren’t in Mayberry after all…

  3. Hazard is the water in the lake is unhealthy for humans to swim in due to runoff and bacterial contaminants. Additionally, *some* swimmers would poop and pee in the lake, further contaminating it.
