Residents of Tamarack, Ash, Elm, and Rosslyn in Fullerton were surprised in early February when numerous vehicles received $40 tickets for overnight parking in front of their own homes. Many community members expressed frustration over the lack of notification regarding the newly enforced regulations, especially since they had parked without penalties for years.
The City of Fullerton’s overnight parking ordinance prohibits parking on public streets and highways from 2 to 5 AM unless an exemption has been granted. Additionally, vehicles parked for more than 72 hours are subject to towing.
A neighborhood can be exempted from this overnight parking regulation if the City Council determines there is insufficient off-street parking in the area. To request an exemption, a petition signed by at least three-quarters of the residents must be submitted, along with a non-refundable fee of $567.
“We shouldn’t have to pay $567 just to submit a petition suggesting how this city should be run,” said longtime resident Victor Cortes, expressing the discontent among locals who feel blindsided by the sudden enforcement.
Residents can speak during public comments at Fullerton City Council on Tuesday, February 18 at 5:30 pm at City Hall located at 303 W. Commonwealth Ave., Fullerton.

More street parking signs should have been installed before the city council enforces any more “no parking” measures.
I’ve NEVER understood why the City of Fullerton hasn’t enforced all along Street Sweeping violators as well as the No Overnight Parking violators. There is signage no matter which street you enter Fullerton from that indicates you may not legally park on its streets from 2am to 5am. Once local signage was posted for street sweeping, after a brief grace period, it should be being enforced routinely as well.
They are losing so much revenue not doing so, revenue that can and should first of all being used to redo every street in Fullerton so that there are no potholes on a single one of them.
Are they also citing cars for blocking sidewalks?
I don’t Understand why the city let my neighbor park over 20 cars in the street for his own business when others are struggling for parking he was going to park one of his cars in front of my house I told him I was gonna get the city involved he said I don’t care I have my lawyer I contacted the city they never did nothing about it that is so ridiculous
This has been enforced for decades in my neighborhood, how did these other neighborhoods get away work it for so long? I like the ordinance, keeps the street clean and helps easily identify vehicles that don’t belong.
