Correction and Update: Concerns Arise with Reports of ICE Officers in Fullerton

Reports of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducting arrests in Fullerton have caused concern among families. At least two arrests have been reported. One notable case involved a couple being deported to Mexico, leaving their three children in Fullerton.

Report ICE sightings and confrontations to the Orange County Rapid Response Network hotline at 714-881-1558. For more information on how OCRRN can help ensure immigrant rights visit ocrapidresponse.org.

Kristy Wells from the Fullerton Police Department stated that the police do not enforce federal immigration laws and have not been notified of any recent ICE operations. This indicates a communication gap, as ICE does not inform the police about their activities.

In light of these events, several universities in Southern California, have issued steps for students, faculty, and staff members to follow if approached by an immigration officer on campus, The CSU has published resources to instruct students, faculty, and staff to refer immigration officers to the appropriate contacts on the campuses.  The CSUF website offers these resources and guidelines:  https://www.fullerton.edu/immigration/ and the university’s immigration protocol cards.

The university does not share information with anyone, including law enforcement authorities, about immigration status, religion, nationality, ethnicity or other information about individual students and employees without a student or employee’s permission, unless presented with a judicially issued subpoena or other legally binding requirement. Immigration enforcement is the responsibility of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, not the university.” From the University website.

Dr. Robert Pletka, Superintendent of Fullerton School District, addressed the potential impact of immigration policies on students’ safety in a memo. He reassured families that the district does not collect sensitive information, such as social security numbers, and highlighted that schools are designed to be safe and supportive environments for all students.

Steve McLaughlin, Superintendent of Fullerton Joint Union High School District (FJUHSD), is also working to support students amid evolving immigration policies. FJUHSD emphasizes that all children, regardless of immigration status, have the right to a free public education, a right upheld by federal and state laws.

As local schools and universities respond to the situation surrounding immigration raids, they aim to ensure the rights and well-being of students in an uncertain landscape.

  1. Illegal aliens broke federal law entering this country. They know they did this. It’s a federal crime. The ICE is doing good work sending them back. Primary targets are those that committed violent crimes. We should not feel sorry for them at all any more than we don’t feel sorry for those that commit other crimes. Be strong of mind and accept that this is just.

    • Dear RealNews – If all ICE was doing was removing people convicted of crimes I would agree. But, we have a longtime broken immigration system. When it takes years and money to enter the US legally it is no wonder that some people – often fleeing violence in their country of origin – resort to entering illegally in order to find work and create a better life for themselves and their children – that should not be criminal. Seeking asylum is not criminal – but creating a system where it takes years – where you and your children are forced to live under a bridge at the border or in detention – while waiting to see a judge in order to prove your asylum case does seem criminal to me. Undocumented immigrants make up 3.3% of the population of the US and the vast majority are law abiding – aside from their entry problems.

    • Good work im native american all you Europeans should go back to your country i understand if they brake the law take them back i think they should do the same to all you white people who brake the law also

      • The scary part is that they are detaining Native Americans and First Nations peoples. They don’t care unless you can prove beyond their unreasonable doubt that you are American and here legally. Hell, a border guard told me years ago that they could even refuse entry of a natural born citizen from return abroad. What the hell type of psychotic mental thinking is that?

    • All illegal immigrants “worried, concerned, in fear” please report directly to cal State campuses.

ED Comment: There are some resources on campuses for students.

  2. “Illegal aliens broke federal law entering this country.”
First time border crossing is a misdemeanor. Keep that in mind, particularly say into comparison to our president giving these orders who committed felonies.

    “They know they did this.”
    Did what?

    “It’s a federal crime.”
Versus a state crime? Is that supposed to be a meaningful distinction?

“The ICE is doing good work sending them back.”
If it saves money and solves the goals we have as a country, sure. If not, it may basically be waste, fraud and abuse. Who can tell? Oh yeah, inspector generals who just got canned.

Maybe this administration doesn’t want anyone deciding what is “good work.” They just want to do what they want to do.

“Primary targets are those that committed violent crimes. ”

The administration is claiming this. But they also said they will scoop anyone up they find in a raid so “primary targets” are anyone in sight I guess with the pretext of looking for someone that as ACCUSED of a violent crime.

They are certainly being shackled and treated like criminals. But foreign governments who have been taking people have publicly said some or all of these deportess are not actually criminals in their country or the United States.

So who am I to believe? Given POTUS and this administration’s track record, I have no reason to believe them. At all. Do you believe DEI caused that plane crash in DC? These people say things with no regard for the truth.

“We should not feel sorry for them at all any more than we don’t feel sorry for those that commit other crimes. Be strong of mind and accept that this is just.”

You can think whatever you want. But it’s clear you are unaware of or ignoring important facts that are easy to find.

  3. Trump is a dangerous convicted rapist, who is using my tax dollars to deport those that are keeping inflation down by working at jobs others will not do.

    • The only thing I’m sure this administration was elected on was.somehow lowering prices. But slapping 25% on many products is going to raise prices.

Their real focus seems to be hassling and destroying lives of immigrants, federal workers,. Californians, Mexicans, Canadians, Greenland, Panama, women, LGBTQ+, racial minorities with no regard to the law.
