On Saturday, December 13, approximately 60 residents, alongside representatives from Fullerton Parks and Recreation and local dignitaries, attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Phase II of the Union Pacific Trail. This new segment runs from Highland Avenue to Independence Park, connecting to Phase I, which was completed in 2004 and extends from the Fullerton Transportation Center to Union Pacific Park. The Union Pacific and Independence Parks, currently under construction, will feature updated amenities, enhancing green space in South Fullerton and providing a welcoming environment for residents. Stay tuned as more photos come in.
The Phase II development includes the planting of 176 trees and bushes, aimed at revitalizing a previously blighted area. Despite encountering challenges and opposition from some city council members, the project has benefited from $1.78 million in state funding. Community advocacy has played a crucial role in moving the initiative forward.
