U.S. Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) announced a significant investment on Monday, April 13, by presenting a $250,000 check to the City of Fullerton. This funding is earmarked for essential infrastructure upgrades at local fire stations to enhance public safety and improve emergency response capabilities.
The grant will finance modernizing station alerting systems, replacing existing roll-up doors with more efficient lateral-opening doors, and upgrading steel hose towers to contemporary mechanical systems at all fire stations throughout the city.
Opening the ceremony, Councilmember Dr. Ahmad Zahra shared a personal anecdote highlighting the importance of timely emergency response. He recounted a recent incident at a neighbor’s home when emergency services arrived swiftly after their daughter fainted. “Every second mattered for that family,” Zahra emphasized, thanking Rep. Correa for championing community needs. He remarked on the critical nature of the grant, underscoring the need for updated alert systems and noting, “Our emergency alerting system now is from the 90s.” He then invited Fullerton Mayor Fred Jung to speak.
Jung spoke, stressing the significance of the funding for public safety. “This investment greatly impacts both the firefighters and the residents who depend on their service. We are thankful for Congressman Correa’s commitment to our community,” Jung stated.
Fire Chief Adam Loeser added, “The community we serve relies on dispatch infrastructure that meets the modern standards of a fire department. This funding will strengthen a critical link in our emergency response system and ensure we maintain the reliability that residents expect when they call for help.”
Rep. Correa spoke, highlighting the essential role fire departments play in managing emergencies and emphasizing the need for modern equipment. “Ensuring they have the necessary resources to respond effectively is vital for the safety of everyone in Fullerton,” he said. “This investment not only supports our first responders but also enhances safety for residents, workers, and visitors.”
This federal funding is part of the FY2026 community project funding initiative, which totals over $13.3 million secured by Rep. Correa for California’s 46th Congressional District. It aims to bolster the Fullerton Fire Department’s response capabilities, reduce maintenance costs and create safer operational environments.
The grant signifies a strong commitment to enhancing public safety in Fullerton and supporting the dedicated first responders who serve the community.
