Buena Park Mayor Connor Traut and Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley, both directors of the Orange County Fire Authority, have issued a stark warning to residents following a hazardous materials incident at GKN Aerospace in Garden Grove. Emergency crews are actively responding to a significant chemical leak at the facility.
“If you hear a hi-lo siren from law enforcement, evacuate immediately,” Mayor Traut emphasized. “Evacuation orders are not precautionary. The danger is real. Public safety officials have warned that this chemical tank will fail and either release dangerous chemicals or explode, and no one can predict the exact timing.”
Officials are stressing that the threat extends beyond Garden Grove, urging residents in surrounding areas to heed evacuation orders without delay. “Follow evacuation orders now, avoid closed roads, and check on vulnerable neighbors,” Mayor Traut added.
The Orange County Fire Authority, alongside law enforcement and health officials, is diligently monitoring conditions and providing support to displaced families. Evacuation orders remain in effect for impacted areas.
