Orange County Board of Supervisors Votes to Return Seized Funds to Local Community

The Orange County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted 5-0 to return $3.7 million in seized funds to the district represented by Supervisor Janet Nguyen on June 9. These funds were recovered from the assets of convicted felon Andrew Do, who had reportedly embezzled the money.

During a recent budget hearing, the matter received significant attention, culminating in a decision to hold a final vote on June 23. The meeting attracted more than 200 residents, many of whom spoke in support of returning the funds, emphasizing the financial strain the community faced during the pandemic. Hundreds of additional residents expressed their support through calls and emails.

“I am so humbled and grateful to all the residents who took time out of their days to make their voices heard,” Supervisor Nguyen stated after the vote. “They are all amazing. We even had a 92-year-old woman take an Uber here to support this item. This money will go a long way toward supporting the First District.”

Supervisor Janet Nguyen represents the First District of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, which includes the cities of Cypress, Fountain Valley, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, and Westminster, as well as the unincorporated areas of Midway City and Rossmoor. Nguyen has an extensive political background, having served in the California State Senate, California State Assembly, as an Orange County Supervisor, and as a Garden Grove City Councilmember.
