The recent Backpack Drive event in Fullerton saw a strong turnout as AT&T Cellular Global Company and the Estrella Family Foundation came together to sponsor the initiative. Casa 723 owners, Lynda and Joseph “JJ” Estrella Gonzalez, partnered with the Fullerton Art Coalition to support the cause, emphasizing the importance of community engagement through cultural arts.

Co-founders Lir Cook and Fernanda Chaney of the Fullerton Art Coalition played a key role in connecting AT&T with the event. The organization aims to foster creativity and build relationships within the community, making this partnership a natural fit.

The event featured musical entertainment from Joshua Carmona and Lir Cook, both of whom volunteered their time and skills as DJs to create a lively, welcoming atmosphere. Carmona, who works in Marketing and Recruiting at AT&T, was instrumental in linking the telecommunications giant to this impactful community initiative.

Taking place from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, the event drew about 15 children, who received essential backpacks and school supplies. Jozef Maldonado, a candidate for the District 5 city council seat, was also present and helped distribute supplies to the young attendees.

“This was an opportunity to connect a nonprofit organization, local artists, and Fullerton families, ensuring that resources are directly provided to kids who need them,” Maldonado stated. He highlighted the event’s role in elevating the Fullerton Art Coalition’s work and fostering future community connections.

“I believe one of the most valuable things I can do is use the attention and connections I have to support the organizations that are making a positive impact in our community. I want to look back and know that we left something positive behind and helped make Fullerton a little stronger in the process,” Maldonado added.

The Backpack Drive not only offered resources for children but also reinforced the importance of collaboration among local businesses, artists, and community leaders to uplift families in Fullerton.
