City Council Meeting Time Change Notice and Agenda

The City of Fullerton has announced a change in the schedule for the upcoming City Council Meeting, set for August 18, 2026. The closed session meeting will now convene at 5:15 pm and the public meeting will start at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall located at 303 West Commonwealth Avenue.

Residents are encouraged to attend what promises to be an important session, as Council members will discuss a range of pressing issues. Agenda items include the proposed Annual Operating and Capital Budget and Master Schedule of Fees and Charges for Fiscal Year 2026-27. The budget, totaling $283 million, is structured to avoid using reserves, a strategy that has raised concerns among community members. Notably, the proposal includes eliminating 26 vacant positions, including six sworn police officers, and making significant cuts to community programming, which will affect celebrations such as First Night and the July 4th festivities.

The meeting will also address Item 15, which focuses on Housing Opportunities Sites. This review is a response to the state-mandated Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) and is supported by a grant from the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG). The study reviews eight potential sites for affordable housing, predominantly located on or near city-owned land.

Furthermore, Item 16 requests an additional $150,000 and new personnel to develop a long-range Economic Development Plan. Critics argue that this request might not align with the proposed budget cuts, especially given the city’s current financial climate.

Additional agenda items include a proposal for Special Tax Bonds not exceeding $9.5 million for Community Facilities District #3, which supports ongoing residential development efforts. Lastly, the council will consider approving tax-exempt bonds totaling $15,705,000 for Magnolia Ridge, a fully occupied manufactured home development, marking the necessity of municipal approval for state-required actions.
