The Fullerton City Council selected Councilmember Jamie Valencia as the city’s voting delegate to the California Cities annual conference on August 18, 2026, with Councilmember Dr. Shana Charles appointed as the alternate.
The council discussed the appointments during its meeting as members considered who would represent Fullerton at the annual conference. Valencia said she planned to attend the conference and asked to be considered as Fullerton’s voting representative.
“I’m going to be attending the conference, so I would like to put myself in as a voting representative for Fullerton,” Valencia said.
Councilmember Dr. Ahmad Zahra was also nominated for the delegate position. The council then conducted a roll-call vote in which members stated their preferred nominee rather than using a traditional “aye” or “opposed” vote.
The votes were:
- Councilmember Charles — Zahra
- Councilmember Zahra — Zahra
- Councilmember Valencia — Valencia
- Mayor Pro Tem Nick Dunlap — Valencia
- Mayor Fred Jung — Valencia
With three votes, Valencia was selected as Fullerton’s delegate. The council then turned to the question of an alternate delegate. Zahra was initially asked whether he would serve as the alternate, but he indicated that he was unavailable. Charles then volunteered to serve as the alternate.
The California Cities annual conference brings together local government officials from throughout California to discuss municipal issues, legislation and policies affecting cities. Fullerton’s delegate will be authorized to cast the city’s vote during the conference.
