The VA Long Beach Healthcare System announced the reopening of the PIER (Partnership in Effective Recovery), a newly renovated peer-led resource center for Veterans dealing with mental illness. The expanded center is located in Building 46 at the Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center and aims to provide a supportive environment without the need for scheduled appointments.

The PIER offers a range of services, including access to showers, food, and phone services for connecting with family and community resources. It also serves as a crucial entry point for Veterans seeking additional VA services, such as housing and medical appointments.

The approximately 5,815-square-foot renovation, completed at a cost of nearly $1 million, includes modernized facilities such as men’s and women’s restrooms, two dedicated group rooms, a patio with outdoor seating, a drinking fountain with a bottle-filling station, and food service equipment.

The official reopening event will take place on September 2, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
