Faculty Artworks Featured in Fullerton College Art Gallery’s Biennial Exhibition

Colleagues, families and students of Fullerton College art faculty congregated on Thursday, September 3, 2026, in the 1000 building on the community college campus to attend the opening of a show featuring professors’ artworks. Every two years, the Fullerton College Art Gallery invites full-time instructors to submit works to a faculty biennial exhibition. This year, the 2026 Faculty Biennial will be on display for roughly a month, from September 3 to 30th, allowing ample time for students to see a wide variety of artworks made by their teachers.

More than a hundred people attended the opening reception for the Fullerton College 2026 Faculty Biennial art exhibition.

According to Jasmine McNeal, gallery curator and adjunct professor in the Fullerton College Art Department’s Fine Arts Division, the faculty biennial is a tradition born from celebrating talented and distinguished faculty, honoring the artistic practice of full-time arts instructors at the community college level. She doesn’t actually know when the tradition started, but explained that a lot of planning and preparation started over the summer.

Professor McNeal said, “Together, alongside the students, we work on curatorial vision as we walk through the space, and they also assist in putting up all the artwork, acting as preparators. They honestly collaborate with me from the beginning to the end of putting together the exhibition. I hope they’ve gained extensive experience, with all it entails, in putting together an exhibition, but also the importance of getting to know their faculty members as creatives and artists. I hope they walk away feeling inspired and curious, not only about their leaders, but about themselves as well.”

Over 100 people attended the biennial’s opening to view the artworks on display, which featured a diverse range of mediums. From painting, sculpture, jewelry, video, and more, there were thirty-nine pieces that were submitted and accepted into the show, according to McNeal. Students I talked to at the gallery opening seemed intrigued to see artworks made by professors they’ve had in the past or with whom they are currently taking classes.

Exhibition wall text at the start of the show reads, “The biennial highlights the dedication professors devote to their own artistic practices…The exhibition demonstrates how informed teaching, student and community engagement – and personal artistic development – can produce inspired instructors. From faculty who have taught at Fullerton College for more than a decade to our newest members, the 2026 faculty show promotes the exploration and experimentation necessary to invest in arts and practice. What does it look like to be an artist and a professor? What inspires our mentors to create in our absence? This exhibition asks how our educational guides are using material to explore themes of nature, discovery, and the reverence of everyday life.”

The Fullerton College Art Gallery’s Faculty Biennial is located in Building 1000, Room 1004, and admission is always free. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm.
