  1. This is horrible. My heart goes out to the victim and their loved ones. Traffic deaths are invariably terrible and heartbreaking.

When will the City of Fullerton wake up and realize that their resistance to creating safer active transportation infrastructure is KILLING people? They say we need to see “accidents” to justify changes, but then they ignore the deaths that do occur. We can’t just politely ask drivers to drive more safely around pedestrians and bicyclists, pretty please. We need infrastructure that enforces safe driving and that physically separates active transport users from the deadly weapons that are cars.

Fullerton just announced a Safe Streets for All plan. And just a couple weeks later, another bicyclist death on Orangethorpe. One of our traffic staff had previously said that they thought endeavors like LA’s Vision Zero were unrealistic and therefore not worth pursuing. Okay, then, how many deaths ARE acceptable? And since our City seems totally fine with road deaths, how would our elected officials like to decide who lives and who dies? What’ll it be, names from a hat, or a lottery wheel?

Enough is enough. We have to create better, safer infrastructure. No more deaths on our roads. Everyone comes home safe.
