This Evening Community Gathering Tuesday May 19 at 5:30 pm

The City Council has announced the cancellation of its upcoming meeting scheduled for May 19. This marks an additional setback for the Council, which has already been operating under a reduced meeting schedule. The cancellation comes after the majority of Council members indicated they would be unavailable, raising questions about the decision. Historically, individual members have participated in similar situations via Zoom, leading to speculation about the underlying reasons for this cancellation.

Some observers suggest that the mayor’s reluctance to face potential backlash from constituents ahead of the upcoming primary election for Supervisor may be a factor. There are also concerns that, with two members absent, the meeting could lead to a situation in which the minority members hold majority influence, which could deter participation.

In place of the official meeting, a grassroots “community” meeting is set to take place on the lawn in front of City Hall at the regular meeting time of 5:30 pm on Tuesday. The gathering aims to provide a platform for citizens frustrated by recent actions and decisions made by the Council majority. Organizers hope the forum will facilitate both spirited discussion and meaningful dialogue about pressing issues currently facing the city.

Residents recall the previous Council meeting as particularly tumultuous, suggesting that tensions may continue to simmer during this community event. It is expected to draw a lively crowd as constituents voice their concerns and seek clarity on the Council’s direction.

  1. A “Community Council” with no power or authority to do anything. Useless.

  2. To so called Fullerton Voter –
There would be nothing good in Fullerton without community getting together and making officials do the right thing – for instance we would not be saving the historic Fox Theater (although that is taking some time), we would not be saving open space in Coyote Hills, we would not have Fullerton’s great trail system and parks, we would not have the new UP Trail, we would have no affordable housing (though that still needs improvement), and much more.
Plus some truly awful ideas would have happened had the community not come out against it – for instance we would have a giant flour mill as tall as Disneyland Matterhorn spewing pollution and stinking up the town across from Amerige Heights, we would have a giant office building instead of the museum center and plaza on Wilshire, we would have a privatized public library, we would have had to pay for the McColl dump site cleanup instead of having the polluting oil companies do it – and much more.
