This year, the department hopes to raise $7,500. Every donation, no matter the size, helps create opportunities, build confidence, and foster inclusion for these remarkable athletes.
“I look forward to participating in the Torch Run each year,” said Officer Brandon Marantz. “Working alongside amazing athletes is an incredibly rewarding experience. It is truly an honor to partner with our community and witness the joy and determination of the athletes. Being able to give back on a deeper level makes this experience especially meaningful.”
Every dollar raised by local law enforcement agencies directly supports Special Olympics of Southern California athletes by covering transportation, uniforms, equipment, and venue costs, so that sports are accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.
In 1981, in Wichita, Kansas, six officers raised $300 for the first Torch Run. Last year, the Southern California Law Enforcement Torch Run program raised $1.26 million with the help of over 3,000 officers across nearly 1,000 miles and through more than 200 communities. Since the first Torch Run, more than 100,000 officers around the nation and world have raised over $1 billion for the Special Olympics.
