In a closely contested election, Connor Traut has taken the lead with 32.55% of the votes, slightly surpassing Tim Shaw, who has garnered 32.12%. This marks a significant turnaround as Shaw was ahead by over 3% on election night. Meanwhile, candidate Jung has received 17.93% of the vote, down approximately 1 percentage point, while Rosie Espinosa has narrowed Shaw’s lead to just 510 votes. However, neither Jung nor Espinosa is expected to advance to the general election.
Jung’s campaign was anticipated to perform better, supported by his substantial fundraising. However, his recent switch to a “no party preference” registration may have hindered his ability to compete against party-backed candidates.
The Orange County Registrar is set to release updated vote counts daily at 5 pm, though it remains uncertain if updates will be available on Sundays. For more comprehensive election results, including races that extend beyond Orange County, voters can visit the California Secretary of State’s website.
Historical patterns indicate that vote counts after election day often favor Democratic candidates, even in non-partisan races, though this trend is not always consistent. For ongoing updates, visit: OC Vote (https://ocvote.gov/) and Secretary of State (https://electionresults.sos.ca.gov/).
