More than 250 participants, including members of the California National Guard, local police officers, firefighters, and residents, came together at the Juanita Cooke Trail Head on Saturday, June 13, for the annual Fullerton Ruck Run. The event, which kicked off at 7 am, featured a five-mile march and run along portions of the Fullerton Loop trail system.
The Fullerton Armory National Guard Assembly organized the Ruck Run in collaboration with the Fullerton Police and Fire Departments. Captain Morris, commander of the Fullerton Armory, led the National Guard contingent, accompanied by nearly 200 service members from two units.
Participants tackled the course in various ways—some ran, while others jogged, walked, or bicycled the distance. Several attendees even brought their dogs, adding to the community spirit of the event. Designed to foster camaraderie between military personnel, first responders, and residents, the Ruck Run emphasized fitness and community engagement. While traditional rucking involves carrying a weighted backpack, this event welcomed individuals of all fitness levels.
Among the notable attendees were the “Mother Ruckers,” a group known for their vibrant clothing and enthusiastic support of the event. Completing the course at a walking pace, they rallied fellow participants and earned recognition from Fullerton Police Chief Jon Radus for their ongoing dedication to the community. Throughout the morning, Chief Radus and Captain Morris addressed participants via a public address system, reflecting on the mutual respect and appreciation between military and public safety agencies. Their remarks underscored the importance of teamwork and commitment to serving the community.
After finishing the five-mile trek, every participant received a raffle ticket for prizes donated by local sponsors, including Planet Fitness, 5.11 Tactical, and Celsius Energy Drinks. The event concluded with Fullerton Police Cadets serving breakfast, featuring freshly cooked pancakes and sausage for all attendees.
As the morning wrapped up, participants celebrated raffle winners, shared breakfast, and reflected on the significance of the event. For many, the Ruck Run represents more than just a physical challenge; it is an opportunity to strengthen connections within the community and support those who serve, whether in uniform or not.
The continued involvement of the National Guard, first responders, local businesses, and the beloved Mother Ruckers ensures that the Fullerton Ruck Run will remain a cherished tradition, exemplifying service, fitness, and community spirit for years to come.
